Kenya Ports Authority Economic zone.
Established in January 1978 under an Act of Parliament, KPA is mandated to manage and operate the Port of Mombasa and all scheduled seaports along Kenya's coastline that include Lamu, Malindi, Kilifi, Mtwapa, Kiunga, Shimoni, Funzi and Vanga.Kenya Ports Authority is an investor in Kenya National Shipping Line, a state corporation of Kenya formed in 1989, currently owned by KPA and three non-Kenyan corporate investors.
According to trademark, The authority with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency is in the process of undertaking an environmental impact assessment of the port infrastructure of Mombasa Special Economic Zone. Mombasa residents have been invited to share their views.
KPA recently set up a livestock zone at the port for marshalling & inspection prior to exportation. The exportation process entails inspection of livestock to ascertain their condition followed by loading of water & feeds onto the vessel to sustain the animals during the voyage.

According to portseconomicmanagement.org,The port authority is responsible for the planning, development, and operation of the cruise port. It is also the entity leading overall promotion and marketing efforts.
According to PMAESA, After gaining independence in 1963 Kenya collaborated with it’s East African neighbours, Tanzania and Uganda in 1967 to set up the East African Community (EAC).
A new authority, the East African Harbour Corporation,to run the principal ports of Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and the oil port of Tanga.
There was notable positive development under this new organisation.
However the EAC collapsed in 1977, the running of Kenya’s ports was taken over by the national government, which established the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in 1978.
It is also responsible for the operation and management of Inland Container Depots (ICDs) in Nairobi and Kisumu It has liaison offices based in Kampala and Kigali to cater for all transit countries.
